Online European Blackjack Games

European Blackjack is a variation on standard Blackjack that is played most commonly across Europe. It is a challenging game that can be played at several online casinos today.

How to Play European Blackjack

There are a few differences between European and standard Blackjack, but the most obvious is that the player carries out their entire hand while the dealer only has one card. In this respect, the dealer cannot win blackjack immediately, altering the player’s strategy in order to win. For example, in standard Blackjack when the dealer’s face up card is an ace, the player is offered insurance on their bet before the dealer checks for blackjack. However, in European Blackjack, the player can continue to hit, split, double, and stand – often raising the value of the bet – before the dealer checks for blackjack. If blackjack does occur, then the player loses all bets, rather than just the initial bet as would occur in standard blackjack.

Another difficulty players face with European Blackjack is whether to make split bets or not. The lack of a dealer hole card poses a threat to players who decide to split their hands. While the odds of a straight blackjack are low, the players stands to lose twice their bets if they split their hand and are ultimately beaten.

Doubling rules are also unique in European Blackjack. Players are only allowed to double on hands worth 9-11, but they are allowed to “double down” after a split.

European Blackjack is a challenging twist on one of the most popular card games in the world. The strategies used in both European and Vegas blackjacks are entirely separate which adds an exciting element to those players wishing to master both games.
