Online Table Games

Table games are the real entertainers of casinos. While slots and similar games can certainly while away the hours, they tend not to provide the complexity and emotional investment that table game give players. The most famous table games are the forms of Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, and variations of Poker. There are many other table games that are achieving popularity, however, as players look for even more exciting games.

Types of Table Games

A lot of casino games can be classified as being "table games", simply because they are played on a table as opposed to a slot machine for example. However often casino games are categorized based on the specific game type, such as blackjack, roulette or poker. Below you will find information on some of the more common table games that you will find at online casinos.

Sic Bo

Sic Bo is a table game that was first developed in ancient China. It involves three dice and could be described as fast-paced Roulette. Players may bet on a massive range of outcomes, all with different odds and payout ratios. Big and Small bets, on numbers from 11 to 17 for Big or 4 to 10 for Small, are much like a Roulette bet on Odds/Evens or Black/Red, though these bets do not pay when a triple is rolled on the dice. There are actually Odds/Even bets in Sic Bo, but they also do not pay when a triple is rolled. Sic Bo has become quite a popular online casino game, though it still is not found in as many casinos as Blackjack or Roulette.

Baccarat

Baccarat is an old and distinguished game that has waned in public favor. It remains well-known mostly due to its famous use in James Bond films, though Poker seems to have replaced it. Baccarat is still found in many online casinos, where players may bet on the player or banker cards to win. Generally, Baccarat found in online casinos is Punto Banco, which is a game of chance alone. The specific rules of Punto Banco Baccarat do not matter much to most players, who will simply be placing a side bet on who will win each hand.

Casino War

Casino War is possibly the simplest of table games, but it nevertheless has retained its appeal over the years, becoming a favorite online casino game of many players. It’s as simple as drawing a higher card than the dealer. Even money is paid on a win. It gets interesting on a draw, though, where the player may choose to ‘Go to War’. This means that the player must place an amount down equal to the original bet, and then three cards are discarded before player and dealer get dealt a new card. If the player wins, he is paid even money on the original bet only. If the dealer wins, the player loses both bets. Many casinos also offer bonus payouts on particularly rare draws when going to war. These bonuses and the simplicity of the game make Casino War an attractive entry into table games for gamblers who are used to slots or poker machines.

Let it Ride

Let It Ride or Let ‘Em Ride is a form of casino Poker that has players betting on the strength of a five-card-hand. Players must first place an ante bet. After that, they get dealt 5 cards, three face up, the other two face down. Money is paid on hands of a pair of 10s or better, with better hands offering higher payouts. The player may now place a second bet, equal to the first, before seeing the next card. This bet is not necessary, but may be advisable if the player is already going to win money or is likely to. A further bet equal to the first may then be played before the final card is flipped over. Money is paid on any remaining bets once all the cards have been revealed. If the hand is not a winning one, though, the player loses on all bets. This table game is very exciting due to the stages of betting, really building up the tension.

Red Dog

Red Dog is another fairly simple casino table game that still leaves a lot of room for decision making. In it, players place an ante bet and then get dealt two cards. If these cards are of consecutive value, the player’s bet is pushed. If of equal value, a third card is dealt and a bonus payout is collected if the third card is also of equal value. Otherwise, the player may place a second bet on whether a third card will have a value between the first two cards. The payout ratio changes depending on the size of the spread covered by those two cards.

Pai Gow Poker

Pai Gow Poker is a blend of the domino game Pai Gow and Western Poker. In Pai Gow Poker, players make two Poker hands out of seven cards: a 5 card hand and a 2 card hand. These are then played against the hands of the dealer. To win, a player must win on both hands. They must also lose on both hands in order to lose their bet, however. Often, one hand will be won while the other is lost, resulting in a push. This is a fairly slow game that involves a considerable amount of strategy for a casino game.

Three Card Poker

Three Card Poker, or Tri Card Poker, is actually two games in one. Players get three cards to make a hand from. Before they are dealt cards, they may choose to play pairplus, ante-and-play or both. Pairplus is a bet on getting a pair or better. The higher the hand, the more money the player wins. In ante-and-play, an ante bet must be put down before cards are dealt. The player then gets the choice of playing this against the dealer hand by putting down a play bet equal to the ante. The dealer’s hand is then shown, but it must qualify with at least Queen high for the player to be paid out at even money on both bets. Exceptionally good hands are paid bonus money if the player makes a play bet. This game can be very exciting and it has an easy strategy of playing any hand that is Queen high or above or otherwise folding.

Pyramid Poker

Pyramid Poker is a very simplified version of Pai Gow Poker. In it, players are dealt three cards that are used to make a 2-card hand and a 1-card hand. As in Pai Gow Poker, it is necessary to win on both hands in order to win overall, and both hands must be lost in order to lose. There is much less strategy in Pyramid Poker, but it is a much faster game to play on account of that. Wins are paid at even money, and bets are pushed when one hand wins and the other loses.

Caribbean Stud Poker

Caribbean Stud Poker is essentially just a game of 5-card stud Poker played against the house with no drawing round. Instead, players put down an ante bet and are dealt 5 cards each, as is the dealer. They may then choose to play or fold. If they play, their cards are compared to those of the dealer, as long as the dealer has a qualifying hand of Ace/King or higher. If the dealer’s hand does not qualify, the ante is paid even money and the play bet is pushed. If the dealer’s hand qualifies and the player’s hand beats it, even money is paid on the ante and the play bet is paid according to the strength of the winning hand. A hand that loses to the dealer forfeits the bet, unless the dealer hand did not qualify.

Casino Holdem

Casino Holdem is essentially a casino version of Texas Hold ‘Em. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, however, it is not possible to ensure overall positive payouts over the long run as casinos do not set their games to be beaten. In Casino Hold ‘Em, players pay an ante and then two cards are dealt to each player and the dealer. Three community cards are then dealt to the table and players can choose to fold or call by putting down a second bet equal to twice the ante. After that two more cards are dealt and hands are compared to that of the dealer. If the dealer hand qualifies with at least a pair of 4s, players with winning hands get paid on the ante bet according to hand strength and on their call bet at even money. The best part of this game is that your hand need only beat that of the dealer, not of other players.

Mahjong

Mahjong can be played as a casino game, with players allowed to make a limited number of tile draws in the hopes of drawing a winning hand. This is much like any casino game based on Western poker, with payouts depending on the strength of the winning hand. It is not at all like competitive Mahjong, though many people who play that will also bet on the outcome.

Pai Gow

Pai Gow is part of the basis for Pai Gow Poker, and it can be bet on at some casinos, though it is generally not found as an online casino game. Pai Gow shares a lot in common with games like Baccarat and community card poker. Players are dealt 4 dominoes and must then choose two to make their hands. The lower scoring domino must be the front hand and the higher scoring domino must be the back hand. The player must beat the dealer on both hands to win, and certain special domino values will rank higher than they otherwise would. Most casinos simply offer Pai Gow Poker instead, to offer the hand choosing strategy of Pai Gow with a more familiar set of hand rankings to Western players.

Most casinos simply stick to classic games, but sometimes a new online casino game or live table game will be created. These can be great to try out, but always be sure to look for strategies and odds calculators before you play them. New casino games are sometimes short-lived simply because they have been set to have a terrible house edge, in an attempt to draw players into a poor value game for as long as the novelty remains. The best casinos know that they are better off giving their customers good value, though, and many online casinos even offer bonuses to help new players to play for longer on their first deposit.
