Online Jacks or Better Video Poker

Video Poker is one of the most popular attractions at online casinos. It has spawned countless variations and offers great payout opportunities. Most online casinos will offer Video Poker in both Single and Multi-hand formats, with a Double Bonus side game.

Jacks or Better is one of the more common versions of video poker and shares many similarities to slot machines and standard Poker.

How to Play Jacks or Better

The best way to explain Jacks or Better is in its Single-hand form, so unless mentioned otherwise, the following guide will be an explanation of Jacks or Better single-hand video poker.

Each hand begins with an initial round of betting. Most online casinos will vary in terms of their minimum and maximum limits, however the most popular often use 25c min./$10 max. limits, with the option to use a multiplier. The multiplier allows you to play one to five coins on each turn, thereby greatly increasing your winnings on qualifying hands.

For example, the following diagram is the pay table for both Single and Multi-hand Jacks or Better. As you can see, the number of coins you choose to play on each hand affects the payout.

Hand 1 Coin 2 Coins 3 Coins 4 Coins 5 Coins
Royal Flush 250 500 750 1,000 4,000
Straight Flush 50 100 150 200 250
Four of a Kind 25 50 75 100 125
Full House 9 18 27 36 45
Flush 6 12 18 24 30
Straight 4 8 12 16 20
Three of a Kind 3 6 9 12 15
Two Pairs 2 4 6 8 10
Jacks or Better 1 2 3 4 5

After betting is complete, the player will receive five cards face up. If there is a winning combination, the computer will automatically hold those cards; however, they can be deselected at any time. If none are already selected, the player can either select their desired cards or forfeit the entire hand for a new one.

*Note: In Multi-hand Joker Poker, selecting a card will carry that card across all active hands.

Next, all cards that were not held will be forfeited and replaced by new ones. From that five-card hand, players must make the best possible winning hand that will be paid out according to the pay table.

If the player wins then they are offered the chance to Collect or Double. Collecting will deposit your winnings into your account before starting another hand or Joker Poker. However, if the player decides to Double then they are sent to a Bonus round room where they will risk their winnings for the chance to double it.

In the Bonus round five cards will be dealt, four face down and one face up. The object of the game is to pick a face down card that is of higher value than the one facing up. A correct selection will earn players twice their winnings, as well as the opportunity to Double again; choosing a lower-value card will result in the loss of the stake.

Jacks or Better is an open-ended game that can be played at any time of the day at whatever time is convenient. Online casinos offer great payout incentives for winning hands, and Multi-hand adds an extra element of skill to the Video Poker experience.
